Phononic Crystal Plate with Hollow Pillars Actively Controlled by Fluid Filling
We investigate theoretically the properties of phononic crystal plates with hollow pillars. Such crystals can exhibit confined whispering gallery modes around the hollow parts of the pillars whose localization can be increased by separating the pillar from the plate by a full cylinder. We discuss the behaviors of these modes and their potential applications in guiding and filtering. Filling the...
متن کاملDesign of optomechanical cavities and waveguides on a simultaneous bandgap phononic-photonic crystal slab.
In this paper we study and design quasi-2D optomechanical crystals, waveguides, and resonant cavities formed from patterned slabs. Two-dimensional periodicity allows for in-plane pseudo-bandgaps in frequency where resonant optical and mechanical excitations localized to the slab are forbidden. By tailoring the unit cell geometry, we show that it is possible to have a slab crystal with simultane...
متن کاملHigh-Q micromechanical resonators in a two-dimensional phononic crystal slab
By creating line defects in the structure of a phononic crystal PC made by etching a hexagonal array of holes in a 15 m thick slab of silicon, high-Q PC resonators are fabricated using a complimentary-metal-oxide-semiconductor-compatible process. The complete phononic band gap of the PC structure supports resonant modes with quality factors of more than 6000 at frequencies as high as 126 MHz. T...

We report the realization of two-dimensional optical wavelength demultiplexers and multiports for surface plasmons polaritons (SPPs) based on plasmonic crystals, i.e., photonic crystals for SPPs. These SPP elements are built up of lithographically fabricated gold nanostructures on gold thin films. We show by direct imaging of laterally confined SPP beams in the visible spectral range by leakage...
متن کاملPhononic bandgaps in silicon plate with metallic pillars
The existence of phononic bandgaps is shown in a phononic crystal structure composed of a silicon plate with stubbed tungsten pillars. Using the finite element method for numerical simulations, the evolution of bandgap opening with varying design parameters is studied. Several bandgaps have been observed for different lattice symmetries. It has been shown that bandgaps of up to 40% gap to mid-g...
